GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — United Food and Commercial Workers Local 951 has reached a tentative contract agreement with Kroger, Cincinnati, covering about 900 workers, the union here said Friday. The agreement will replace the current pact, which is set to expire in October, the union said, and run through October of 2011. The early settlement allows members to gain improved salary and health benefits sooner. “In assuring stability for our members and for Kroger, our hope is that it creates a platform from which Kroger can expand its presence in mid-Michigan,” Marv Russow, president, Local 951, said in a statement. The deal is subject to ratification votes set for Jan. 30-31.
