NISKAYUNA, N.Y. — Just a few weeks after Wakefern Food Corp. opened its first ShopRite store here in the Albany market, rival Price Chopper, based in nearby Schenectady, has filed a lawsuit against its new rival alleging advertising improprieties.
According to local reports, Price Chopper filed the suit after discovering that Internet searches for "Price Chopper" and "Price Chopper Flyer" prompted ads that linked to ShopRite's website.
A local CBS television station reported that searches for "Hannaford" ad a similar result. Both Scarborough, Maine-based Hannaford Bros. and Price Chopper have a store in Niskayuna.
The station's website reported that ShopRite had taken steps to remove the ads.
