SN's Technology and Operations Editor Michael Garry named data as the biggest takeaway from the 19th annual State of the Industry Report on Supermarket Technology. Among applications that survey respondents said they are using now, six of the 10 most commonly cited involve data.
Penton Research, a division of SN parent company Penton Media, conducted the survey Feb. 15-24. Of the 43 respondents, 37% of respondents reported that their company's annual sales were $1 billion or more and that 35% were from companies with 50 or more stores. One-third of the respondents have the title of CIO, CTO or VP of MIS; 14% are IT director or manager, and 28% are president of their company.
Other areas of supermarket operations technology covered in the survey include computer-based store ordering, POS software investments and IT investments as indicators of the industry's focuses.
