SACREMENTO, Calif. — The board of directors of the California Leafy Greens Marketing Agreement voted to extend the enrollment period for handlers to sign up for the agreement to May 18. Handlers that sign up during the extension period will be assessed retroactively to April 1. Inspections are scheduled to being this spring, and until then, trial inspections of participants will take place with the expectation that each participant is compliant with the program’s guidelines for good agricultural practices. “All along, the goal of the marketing agreement has been to get as close as possible to 100% participation among leafy greens handlers,” said board chairman Joe Pezzini in a statement. “Even though we currently have more than 99% of California product enrolled, the board feels strongly that it should do everything possible to reach out to the remaining handlers.”
