Iowa Grocers Offer Corn From South

DES MOINES — Iowa food retailers, including supermarket chains Hy-Vee and Fareway, offered sweet corn from Georgia and Florida in their stores over the weekend after weather problems have delayed the in-state crop, according to reports. The July 4th holiday typically marks a huge sales event for sweet corn in the state, where this year's crop has been delayed because of cold weather during planting season and then the recent flooding. Sweet corn is harvested earlier than field corn, which is primarily used to feed livestock.
