Chief Picks New Produce Supplier

DEFIANCE, Ohio — Chief Super Markets has chosen Caito Foods of Indianapolis as its new produce supplier, the 12-store independent announced on its Facebook page and in its weekly flyer.

The retailer said in a Facebook post that customers could expect to see the change in stores by March 12.

“I am certain we will have the freshest produce in town. You’ll find new varieties and quick meal items in the produce department starting this week,” Stephanie Skylar, president and chief executive officer, wrote in Chief’s weekly flyer on Feb. 27.

New added value items include cut fruit and vegetables as well as stuffed mushrooms, according to the Facebook post.

Chief also purchases some of its produce from the Detroit Produce Terminal.

The retailer recently revealed it had named Spartan Stores as its new grocery supplier.
