PMA Suppliers Make Record Donation to Food Bank

HOUSTON — Produce and floral suppliers exhibiting their wares at the Produce Marketing Association's annual Fresh Summit convention here donated more than 311,400 pounds of fresh fruit, vegetables and flowers to the Houston Food Bank immediately after the show ended earlier this month. The donation was the largest one-time fresh-food gift the food bank had received in its 25-year history. “The Houston Food Bank places a high priority on offering nutritious food to our agencies and has one of the highest rates of produce distribution in the country. Over one-third of our total food distribution is produce,” Brian Greene, the food bank's president, said in a release. “So we are especially excited and grateful to be receiving such a large quantity of top-quality fruits and vegetables from the Fresh Summit.”
