16 Hannaford Stores Achieve Energy Star Rank

SCARBOROUGH, Maine -- Sixteen stores operated by Hannaford Bros. here have received Energy Star labels for demonstrating superior energy performance, the Environmental Protection Agency said. The EPA said 10 of the stores, all located in Maine, used 40% less energy than similar buildings getting average energy performance. Hannaford cut consumption by using more efficient lighting -- including T8 fluorescent bulbs, skylights and LED, rather than neon, store signs -- and by improving efficiency in refrigeration, among other tactics, the EPA said.
