Albertsons LLC to Close 7 Texas Stores

BOISE, Idaho — Albertsons LLC here said Tuesday it plans to begin liquidation sales Wednesday at seven unprofitable stores in the Dallas-Fort Worth marketing area that it plans to close by mid-February.

BOISE, Idaho — Albertsons LLC here said Tuesday it plans to begin liquidation sales Wednesday at seven unprofitable stores in the Dallas-Fort Worth marketing area that it plans to close by mid-February.

"Over the last several years we have put our best efforts into re-positioning these stores to better compete in the marketplace," a chain spokeswoman said. "Unfortunately, we haven't been able to do so."

The stores are located in Carrollton, Garland, Plano, Richardson, San Angelo Southlake and Tyler. The chain, which operates 79 other stores in Texas, said it will attempt to place some of the 550 employees from the seven stores at other locations.

The seven stores are part of Albertsons LLC's 118-store Southern division, which encompasses 78 stores in Texas (except for El Paso); 20 in Florida; 19 in Louisiana; and one in Arkansas. The company also operates 105 stores in its Southwest division, including 43 in Arizona; 30 in New Mexico; 22 in Colorado; eight in El Paso; and two under the Super Saver banner in Utah.
