CHANDLER, Ariz. — Bashas’ here will sponsor a summer food drive in partnership with 12 News, The Arizona Republic and Mix 96.9. Participating locations will collect non-perishable food items and cash donations through the month of July to benefit Arizona families in need. Tuna, peanut butter, canned soups and stews, canned fruit and canned vegetables are among the products requested for donation. Canned beans, macaroni and cheese, jelly, dry pasta, rice and boxed cereal are also suggested. Donations will benefit the St. Vincent de Paul Society and members of the Association of Arizona Food Banks. Forty-one percent of the Association’s clients surveyed last year said they sacrifice food to pay for utilities, 32% choose between food and paying their rent, and 28% said they will pay for medicine before buying groceries. More than 245,000 pounds of food was collected during last year’s summer food drive.
