BETHPAGE, N.Y. — Best Yet Markets here is introducing a neighborhood-focused brand and revamped selections under a new banner to be known as Best Market. Its first store under the new banner opened in late February in Holmdel, N.J.; with additional Best Market locations scheduled to open later this month in Huntington, N.Y., and Patchogue, N.Y.
According to Jonathan Sender, advertising and marketing director at the family-run company, the new look and banner eventually will be extended to the company’s 13 existing stores on Long Island and New York City.
“We’re just trying to serve the community in the right way,” Sender told SN. “You’ll see a lot of décor changes, new fixtures and new signage. We are taking a look at product selection and rationalizing some things, seeing the items that fit in each store. Also, changing over to Best Markets is an opportunity to introduce ourselves to customers who don’t know about us already.”
Best Yet, which traces its history to a Brooklyn fruit market founded by Ben Raitses, late last year named Rebecca Philbert as its chief executive officer. Philbert previously served as chief merchandising and marketing officer at A&P and prior to that was vice president of Safeway’s lifestyle initiatives. The Huntington and Patchougue stores are former Waldbaums locations that were closed during A&P’s bankruptcy.
The new Holmdel store incorporates “retro 1950s” iconography to evoke simplicity and an intimate feel.
