DENVER — Supermarket workers here are scheduled to vote this week on a “last, best and final offer” submitted yesterday by Kroger and Safeway, according to United Food & Commercial Workers Local 7.

Employees have voted to strike if they cannot reach an agreement in the long-running contract dispute, but such a work stoppage has not been approved by the UFCW headquarters in Washington.

Details of the latest offer were not available. A previous offer submitted by Kroger’s King Soopers called for wage increase of $1.35 per hour over the life of the contract for top workers and an extension of the retirement age to 55 from 50 to preserve pension benefits.
