Dollar General Plans 2012 Calif. Debut

GOODLETTSVILLE, Ky. — Dollar General Corp. here said it plans to open its first stores in California in 2012. The company anticipates beginning its expansion in the state in Sacramento, then working its way south through the Central Valley and into the Inland Empire.

The company anticipates beginning its expansion in the state in Sacramento, then working its way south through the Central Valley and into the Inland Empire.

"Our California stores will mark a significant milestone for Dollar General, giving us a coast-to-coast presence for the first time," Rick Dreiling, chairman and chief executive officer, said.

The company also said it plans to expand into three new states this year — Connecticut, New Hampshire and Nevada. California would be the chain's 39th state.
