FOOD LION NAMES BEICHLER VP OF REAL ESTATE

SALISBURY, N.C. — Food Lion here has named Shawn Beichler vice president of real estate, reporting to Glenn Dixon, senior vice president of corporate development. In this new role, Beichler will lead the organization's effort to meet growth targets for new stores, in addition to overseeing all real estate operations, including managing the location and development of Food Lion, Bloom, Bottom Dollar Food, Reid's and Harveys stores; lease administration; and the disposition of excess property. Beichler joined Food Lion in 2005 after more than 13 years at McDonald's USA doing construction, real estate and development work. Prior to that, he worked for several privately owned architect firms. In his previous role as Food Lion's director of real estate, Beichler served on the New Store Performance Team, where he developed market-by-market new-growth strategy.

MILLER JOINS DOMINICK'S AS REAL ESTATE DIRECTOR

OAK BROOK, Ill. — Dominick's Finer Foods here, a division of Safeway, has named Lynn Miller director of real estate, filling a post that had been vacant for some time, sources told SN. A Dominick's spokeswoman confirmed last week that Miller had recently been hired but declined to provide additional details. Miller most recently had been with McDonald's Corp., also based here, and previously had been with Dominick's rival Jewel, now owned by Minneapolis-based Supervalu.

HALL TAPPED AS CHAIR OF INDEPENDENT BROKERS

LAKELAND, Fla. — Jim Hall, president of Riteway Sales and Marketing here, has been named as the new chair of Independent Food Brokers, a division of NARMS International, the brokers' group said last week. IFBA, as it is known, also named Steve Horowitz, president of Co-Sales Southern California, Sherman Oaks, as vice chair. They succeed outgoing chair Chip O'Hare, president of Johnson O'Hare Co., Billerica, Mass.; and Don Cox, president of Co-Sales, Phoenix, respectively. IFBA also said it has scheduled Al Plamann, president and chief executive officer, Unified Grocers, to speak at its 2008 Top-to-Top Conference, scheduled for May 2-4 in Las Vegas just prior to the Food Marketing Institute Show.
