BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Bruno's Supermarkets here said it has named Kent Moore president and chief executive officer, succeeding David West, who remains chairman of the board. Moore, who had joined Bruno's as its chief financial officer in June, previously was CEO of United Supermarkets, Lubbock, Texas, from 1998-2004. He began his industry career in 1985 as an outside auditor for Randalls Food Markets, Houston, before joining United in 1989 as its CFO. Lone Star Funds, the parent of Bruno's, earlier this year split the 67-store chain away from its sister banner, Bi-Lo, which Lone Star has been seeking to sell.

WHOLE FOODS VETERAN GILMORE RETURNS TO SAFEWAY

PLEASANTON, Calif. — Safeway here said that Anthony Gilmore has been named vice president of lifestyle, the company's name for its upscale store remodels. He will report to Rojon Hasker, president and general manager, corporate lifestyle. Gilmore most recently was president of Whole Foods' Northern California division, and previously had been president of that chain's Midwest and Southeast regions. He previously had worked for Safeway's Northern California division from 1976-1996.

WRIGHT TO EXPAND KROGER'S PERISHABLES DONATIONS

CINCINNATI — Kroger Co. here said it has named Kathleen Wright director of the company's Perishable Donations Partnership, a project designed to increase the company's contribution of fresh foods to America's Second Harvest food banks. The company said it currently donates about 8 million pounds of fresh food annually from 300 stores in four states, but hopes to expand that effort chainwide to reach 50 million pounds of perishables donations. Wright is a 25-year veteran of the industry who most recently was director of food safety for Kroger's Fred Meyer division.

SHOPPERS NAMES COFFIN TO LEAD STORE DEVELOPMENT

BALTIMORE — Shoppers Food & Pharmacy, a division of Minneapolis-based Supervalu, last week said it has named Mark T. Coffin Sr. to the position of director of store development, succeeding Kevin Small, who left to pursue other interests, the company said. Prior to joining Shoppers, Coffin spent 28 years with Giant of Landover, Md. In his new position, he will be responsible for planning, budgeting and the construction of new and remodeled stores, with three project managers reporting to him.

TOPCO APPOINTS MUSCHETTO, SKODA TO EVP POSITIONS

SKOKIE, Ill. — Topco Associates here announced that Frank Muschetto, 57, has joined the company as executive vice president and chief procurement officer, reporting to Steven K. Lauer, president and chief executive officer. Muschetto will oversee procurement of Topco's corporate-brand and perishable products as well as the company's logistics and supply chain management. Prior to joining Topco, Muschetto held a variety of executive positions at McDonald's Corp., most recently chief purchasing officer for McDonald's worldwide. In addition, Topco has promoted Randall J. Skoda, 45, to executive vice president, with overall responsibility for Topco's Center Store, perishables, pharmacy and TopSource programs, as well as product and brand innovation. Prior to Topco, Skoda was president of Old Town Partners, a firm that provides business and financial consulting services to privately held companies, and previously served Topco as its controller.
