RETIREMENT, NEW PRESIDENTS FOR SHAW'S, JEWEL-OSCO

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — Supervalu last week said that Carl Jablonski, president of the Shaw's banner in New England, has decided to retire after 38 years with the company. Larry Wahlstrom, president of Supervalu's Jewel-Osco banner in Chicago, will succeed Jablonski as president of Shaw's. Wahlstrom is in turn being succeeded at Jewel-Osco by Keith Nielsen, the banner's senior vice president of operations and a 40-year veteran of the company. Wahlstrom is moving to Shaw's immediately to transition responsibilities from Jablonski, who will stay with the company through the end of the month. Wahlstrom, who has been with the company for 37 years, began his career at Osco Drug as a store worker before rising through a number of leadership roles, including vice president of the Osco New England division. He also held a number of corporate leadership assignments for Albertsons before becoming president of Jewel-Osco in 2004. Nielsen has been Jewel-Osco's senior vice president of operations for the past eight years.

KROGER NAMES GOING PRESIDENT OF MICHIGAN DIVISION

CINCINNATI — Kroger here has named Rick Going president of the company's new Michigan division, effective immediately. Going, who joined Kroger in 1981 and has held several leadership positions at the company, will oversee operations at Kroger's 138 stores in Michigan. Among the positions he has held are vice president of retail operations and vice president of merchandising at Kroger's Cincinnati/Dayton division. Going reports to Don McGeorge, Kroger's president and chief operating officer.

STOP & SHOP/GIANT NAMES FOUR TO SR. VP POSTS

QUINCY, Mass. — Stop & Shop/Giant Food has promoted David McGlinchey to the post of senior vice president, business insight and merchandising services and Jim Sylvia to senior vice president, real estate. McGlinchey joined Stop & Shop in 1996 and had been vice president of merchandising services, while Sylvia, who joined the company in 1994, was vice president of real estate. Also, newly hired are Peter Hurtgen, senior vice president, labor relations, and Ruth Kinzey, senior vice president, communication and public affairs. Hurtgen was most recently a partner in the Labor & Employment group of Morgan Lewis and has served as director of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service and as chair of the National Labor Relations Board. Kinzey brings 30 years of communication experience to her new role, having held similar positions in the grocery, trucking, natural gas and computer software industries. She most recently had been with Delhaize's Food Lion banner.
