ARLINGTON, Va. -- Food Marketing Institute here said Wednesday that its annual trade show would move from to Chicago to Las Vegas in 2008, and would begin an alternating year rotation with an education-focused forum beginning in 2009 in Dallas. Holding the FMI Show in even-numbered years would accommodate equipment vendors that requested FMI be sensitive to the National Association of Foodservice Equipment Manufacturers, which holds its trade show in odd-numbered years, an FMI spokeswoman said. Sources had previously told SN -- and FMI had previously posted on a calendar on its website -- that the educational forum would be held in Las Vegas in 2008, but the association has apparently changed its plans and switched to holding the booth shows in even-numbered years. Also, the United Fresh Produce Association yesterday said it would continue to co-locate with FMI in 2007 and 2008 and will cooperate on an educational program in 2009. “The partnership between our associations, serving our members in both the produce and retail industries, has created a unique strategic opportunity for building business alliances across the total produce supply chain,” said United Fresh Co-Chairman Maureen Marshall in a prepared statement.
