REDLANDS, Calif. — Funeral services are scheduled here Saturday for Michael T. Slaton Sr., vice president of real estate for Stater Bros. Markets, who died suddenly last Saturday at the age of 51.
Slaton joined Stater as a box boy in 1981 and was eventually named real estate manager. He left the company to pursue other opportunities, then rejoined Stater in 2008.
Because he had worked diligently on a new Stater Bros. store here that opened three days before he died, the company said it is dedicating the store in Slaton's honor.
According to Jack Brown, chairman and chief executive officer, "His contributions to our company were immeasurable, and he will be deeply missed."
Slaton is survived by his wife, Cheryl, two grown children, two sisters and his parents.
