LOS ANGELES — A coalition of community organizations here is seeking assurances from Tesco that it will go into underserved market areas, champion the environment and create good jobs — commitments the retailer has already made in previous public statements. A group called the Alliance for Healthy and Responsible Grocery Stores held a rally yesterday at the site of a future Tesco Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market in Hollywood asking the chain to negotiate a community benefits agreement guaranteeing to keep the promises it has made. The alliance is comprised of several religious, civic, union and residential groups. “We are looking forward to opening our first stores later this year when everyone will be able to decide whether we lived up to our promises,” a Tesco spokesman told SN.
