Haggen Trims More Locations: Report

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Haggen Inc. here plans to close three more Top Food & Drug stores by the end of the year, according to local reports — bringing to eight the number of stores it will have closed this year.

The stores are in Auburn, Kent and Yakima, Wash. The company said the closures are part of a long-term plan to improve the chain's overall competitiveness, the reports said.

Company officials could not be reached for comment.

Haggen told SN in August the company was assessing all stores as part of an effort to develop the new Haggen Northwest Fresh brand at better-performing locations.

Haggen had previously closed Top locations in Tacoma, Lacey, Federal Way, Bellevue and Shoreline, Wash. With the three additional closings, the chain will operate 17 Haggen stores and three Tops.
