HR in the Heartland

MINNEAPOLIS — Specialists from supermarkets around the country — and a few from outside the U.S. — gathered here last week to discuss personnel issues at the Food Marketing Institute's Human Resources/Training & Development Conference. “This is an industry that runs on people,” said Michael Sansolo, the former FMI vice president who is now an independent consultant, during a presentation at the conference. “The issue of talent and people recruiting is becoming a top-of-mind issue for supermarket [chief executive officers].” Other speakers addressed ethics, branding and strategic HR planning, among other topics. Lund Food Holdings and Wegmans Food Markets were each given FMI's Maximizing People Award at an outdoor reception at the Hyatt Regency here.
