Jurgens, Pappas Named to GMA Hall of Achievement

Ric JurgensWASHINGTON — The Grocery Manufacturers Association here said it has selected two industry executives to receive its Hall of Achievement Awards: Ric Jurgens (right), retired chairman and chief executive officer of Hy-Vee, West Des Moines, Iowa; and Dean Pappas, former CEO of Clement Pappas & Co., Carneys Point, N.J.

"Their business savvy, their desire to make the world a better place and their compassion for their associates, their communities and their consumers sets them apart," Pamela G. Bailey, GMA president and CEO, said in announcing the selections.

Jurgens Receives NGA Spirit of America Award

Jurgens, who is scheduled to retire Friday, has been with Hy-Vee for 42 years. Pappas helped grow his company into a leader in supplying private-label fruit-juice beverages and cranberry sauce before it was sold last year. The awards are scheduled to be presented during GMA's Executive Conference in late August in Colorado Springs.
