NEW YORK - Key Food, the cooperative based on Staten Island, is planting its banner in North Carolina for the first time. David Diaz, a cooperative member who operates Key Food stores in the Bronx, has acquired former Southern Family Markets stores in Greensboro, N.C., and Goldsboro, N.C., and converted them to the Key Food Fresh Marketplace banner, Jerry Cesaro, senior vice president of Key Food, told SN. Both North Carolina stores, a Greensboro location that reopened last week and a Goldsboro store scheduled to open today, most recently operated under the Southern Family Markets banner of C&S Wholesale Grocers. Diaz acquired the locations from C&S, which will continue to supply the stores, Cesaro said. C&S, based in Keene, N.H., also supplies Key Food in metro New York. “This will provide nice growth for Key Food,” Cesaro said. Jon Springer
