DETROIT — Kroger Co. said on Friday that members of United Food and Commercial Workers Local 876 here have ratified a three-year contract covering more than 10,000 workers at 101 stores in this area. Roger Robinson, president of the local, told SN the contract calls for employees to begin paying for their health benefits — $4 per week for individuals, $8 per week for couples and $12 per week for families — but it also increases the benefits package for workers and allows workers to become eligible for health insurance more quickly. Full-timers will be eligible in nine months and part-timers in 18 months. Kroger will also double its hourly contribution to the pension fund, to 10 cents from 5 cents. “It’s a fair contract, for our members and for Kroger,” he said.
