CINCINNATI — At least two divisions of the Kroger Co. here have cut back on the number of 24-hour stores in their operations.

The changes were made at four of 15 Kroger supermarkets in Knoxville, Tenn., part of the chain's Atlanta division, and an unspecified number of the 91 Detroit stores in the Michigan division, all of which previously operated around the clock but have subsequently shortened their hours.

The new opening and closing hours vary by location, the company said.

“Each division reviews store operating hours periodically and makes adjustments as it needs to, based on market conditions where the stores are located and customer traffic patterns,” a Kroger spokeswoman told SN.

She declined to say whether other divisions might cut back the number of 24-hour stores they operate. “That's an ongoing decision each operating area makes on its own,” she explained.
