Kroger, Wal-Mart Among Hostess Bidders: Report

IRVING, Texas — Kroger Co. and Wal-Mart Stores are among a group of about “two dozen” companies that have submitted bids for all or part of Hostess Brands, according to a Blooomberg News report Thursday.

Other bidders include Grupo Bimbo and Alpha Baking Co., the report said.

As previously reported, Hostess, the maker of Twinkies, Wonder Bread and other baked-goods brands, is seeking to liquidate after a failed effort to reorganize through bankruptcy. It is seeking buyers for both its assortment of well-known product lines and its 36 bakery plants around the country.

It was not clear what parts of the business the bidders were interested in. Both Kroger and Wal-Mart declined to comment.
