Massachusetts Paves Way for Clinics; Delays CVS’ Plans

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health will propose new regulations to the state’s Public Health Council to clear the way for the statewide operation of convenient care clinics by Aug. 8.

BOSTON — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health will propose new regulations to the state’s Public Health Council to clear the way for the statewide operation of convenient care clinics by Aug. 8. The plan is a result of an application from CVS Caremark, Woonsocket, R.I., to open a MinuteClinic in one of its stores in Weymouth, the Department of Public Health said in a statement released late Tuesday. However, CVS will have to reapply under the new regulations. Officials said the passage of the regulations would also allow for the operation of clinics by not-for-profit hospitals or community health centers.
