Meijer Said to Eye Wisconsin Sites

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Meijer here is making plans to expand its operations into Wisconsin, according to published reports.

The company, which operates 198 stores in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky, is reportedly seeking zoning changes in Grafton and Franklin, Wis., so it can open stores there. Both stores would be approximately 192,000 square feet; the Grafton location would also have a 2,640-square-foot convenience store on the same property, the reports indicated.

Both locations are in the suburbs of Milwaukee, about an hour north of Meijer's current reach in the suburbs north and west of Chicago.

Meijer officials could not be reached for comment.
