New CEO at Kenny ShopRites

WILMINGTON, Del. — Kenny Family ShopRites here has named Chris Kenny president and chief executive officer of the five-store operator.

Kenny, 36, succeeds his father, company founder Bernard Kenny, 74, who remains chairman of the retailer, according to local reports. The elder Kenny was a former Pathmark executive who acquired two ShopRites in 1994 to launch his business, according to a report on the succession by DelawareOnline.

Chris Kenny has held several executive posts at the family business and most recently was chief financial officer. The company, a member of the Wakefern Food Stores cooperative, Keasbey, N.J., opened its fifth ShopRite location earlier this year in Bear, Del.

Bernie Kenny, as VP of Pathmark's Southern Division (South Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware, and even six Pathmarks in Maryland for awhile) was one of the great assets that made Supermarkets General Corporation so very, very successful.

I agree...when Bernie left Pathmark Stores it was a sad day....He was an amazing person and leader.
