SWEETWATER, Texas — A memorial service was held late last month for Jere Lawrence, chairman of Lawrence Brothers Supermarkets here, who died during surgery. Lawrence was 76. He was the grandson of the founders of the chain, which now numbers 25 locations — 23 in northwest Texas and two in New Mexico. A company spokeswoman said Lawrence had suffered from “serious heart trouble” and died during unrelated surgery when doctors were unable to restore his blood pressure.
