Price Chopper Seeks to Buy 4 P&C Stores

Penn Traffic on Friday said it was seeking court approval to sell four of its P&C stores to Price Chopper Supermarkets, Schenectady, N.Y., for an undisclosed sum.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Penn Traffic here on Friday said it was seeking court approval to sell four of its P&C stores to Price Chopper Supermarkets, Schenectady, N.Y., for an undisclosed sum.

In a filing with bankruptcy court, Penn Traffic said Price Chopper had previously offered $12.3 million in cash for the four stores, which are located in Massena, Potsdam, Gouverneur and Canton, N.Y. The Canton location includes a pharmacy.

That offer had been made in October, before Penn Traffic had filed for bankruptcy protection. Price Chopper last year acquired two P&C locations in eastern New York.

Penn Traffic said it is continuing to seek buyers for the 75 remaining P&C, BiLo and Quality supermarkets it operates.
