Q3 Sales Improve for BJ’s

NATICK, Mass. — Comparable-store sales at BJ’s Wholesale Club increased by 2.5% in the fiscal third quarter, which ended Oct. 30, and strengthened over the last month, the warehouse club operator said Thursday.

NATICK, Mass. — Comparable-store sales at BJ’s Wholesale Club increased by 2.5% in the fiscal third quarter, which ended Oct. 30, and strengthened over the last month, the warehouse club operator said Thursday.

Excluding fuel, BJ’s posted 1.5% comp gains during the 13-week quarter, and saw non-fuel comps improve by 2.2% during October. A calendar shift in the timing of Halloween helped monthly sales improve by 6.3%, the company said.

Quarterly sales totaled $2.6 billion, a 4.8% gain from the same period last year. Sales for the year-to-date period of $7.8 billion are an 8.6% improvement over the same period in 2009, BJ’s added. Food sales improved 4% for the quarter and 5% during October.

BJ’s said it would report earnings for the third quarter on Nov. 17.
