WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Raley's here has had informal discussions with the United Food and Commercial Workers Union over the last few days and expects to resume formal negotiations "shortly," a chain spokesman told SN.
The two sides have been at an impasse since June and have had only one negotiating session since then on a contract that expired in October 2011.
Raley's also said it has reversed its decision to close two stores and will instead keep both open. The chain said in August it planned to close a Bel Air Market in Woodland, Calif., and a Raley's in Pittsburg, Calif., after closing four other units earlier in the year. However, the company said it has negotiated a more favorable lease for the Bel Air location and will keep it open as a Bel Air.

The spokesman said the company plans to close the Raley's in Pittsburg within the next couple of weeks and convert it to a Food Source warehouse store, with a reopening set for mid-November.
"Food Source is a less labor-intensive format, and we felt it would be a better fit at that location," the spokesman told SN.
