Rouses Responds to Union Charges

Union organizers targeting Rouses Markets earlier this month were in violation of a "no solicitation" policy and used "deceitful tactics" to distribute union cards to its employees, the retailer said Wednesday.

THIBODAUX, La. — Union organizers targeting Rouses Markets earlier this month were in violation of a "no solicitation" policy and used "deceitful tactics" to distribute union cards to its employees, the retailer here said Wednesday.

The United Food and Commercial Workers earlier this week said it filed unfair labor charges against Rouses, saying the retailer obstructed its organizing attempts. Rouses in a statement said that charge was "blatantly false," and that store managers called police to its stores only after warning organizers that they were in violation of store policy.
