Save Mart’s President and COO to Retire, Again

Bob Spengler, president and chief operating officer of Save Mart Supermarkets, has announced his plans to retire as of today.

MODESTO, Calif. — Bob Spengler, president and chief operating officer of Save Mart Supermarkets here, has announced his plans to retire as of today. Spengler first retired from the company in December 2005 and then returned to his post the following October to lead the acquisition of the Albertsons LLC Northern California Division. Over the past year he oversaw the conversion of 130 Albertsons stores to Save Mart’s banners, including bringing back the Lucky banner to the San Francisco Bay Area. In his company announcement, Bob Piccinini, chairman and chief executive officer, remarked, “When the decision was being made to more than double the company, I knew that to get it done right Bob needed to be involved. Fortunately, he agreed, but naturally with the stipulation that it would be a short-term deal.” Executive Vice President Steve Junqueiro, along with Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Ron Riesenbeck and Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Law Mike Silveira, will continue to lead the current business planning for the company, reporting to Piccinini.
