PHOENIX — The first four Marketside units Wal-Mart Stores plans to open in the Phoenix area this fall will be located at sites formerly owned by the Eckerd drug store chain, according to local sources.

One location is in Mesa, Ariz. Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-Mart is considering building at least two other locations in the same area from the ground up, reports said.

Marketside will be a format of 15,000-20,000 square feet that will focus on store brands, prepared foods and meal solutions, according to the chain's website.

Opening dates for the stores have not yet been announced.
