Some Colo. Safeway Workers Ink Deal: Report

Certain bargaining units in Colorado that voted to approve a new union contract with Safeway have signed contracts, a report said Monday

DENVER — Certain bargaining units in Colorado that voted to approve a new union contract with Safeway have signed contracts, a report said Monday.

Groups comprising around 25% of Safeway’s union employees in Colorado voted to approve the contract offer last month and have already received ratification bonuses for doing so, according to a post on the Westword website. Others that voted to reject the deal are still working without a contract, the report said.

A Safeway spokeswoman told SN that the retailer would be unwilling to negotiate terms for workers that would differ from the contract approved by some units and by a majority of workers from Kroger’s King Soopers chain last month.
