GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Spartan Stores and Nash Finch Co. said Tuesday that the waiting period for the pending merger of the companies passed without action from the Federal Trade Commission.
The expiration of the mandatory waiting period, known as the Hart-Scott-Rodino review period, satisfies one of the conditions necessary for the merger to proceed. The distributors reiterated the merger should complete before the end of the calendar year, subject to the approval of the shareholders of both companies.
Spartan, based here, announced the $1.3 billion acquisition of Minneapolis-based Nash Finch in July.
