NEW YORK — United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1500 said Wednesday it has reached tentative agreement on a new contract covering 6,000 New York Stop & Shop workers.
The previous agreement expired on Sept. 28 and was extended twice until Nov. 2. Since then, the workers have been without a contract and had begun strike preparations. The tentative agreement is scheduled for a vote on Monday.
"Our team has fought every second of the day to try and secure not just ‘any contract’ but the best contract we can. We feel we have,” said Negotiating Committee Member Greg Pasquale from Stop & Shop in Beekman, N.Y.
The union had cited problems with Affordable Care Act mandates throughout negotiations.
