The United Food and Commercial Workers union said Thursday it is part of a coalition of more than 40 organizations supporting "The 99% Spring," a series of non-violent community actions scheduled to take place next week at churches, campuses and the streets "in the work of reclaiming our country."
The UFCW said it will work with its allies to "pull off one of the biggest and brightest actions against corporate corruption yet," noting the coalition said it has trained100,000 people in non-violent direct action to take aim at "the megabucks, polluters and election buyers."
The coalition released a video (seee below) Thursday — which the UFCW asked its members to post on social media sites — urging "UFCW members and ordinary people across America [to take] direct action in their communities."
According to a statement from the coalition planning the actions, "We will reshape our country with our own hands and feet, bodies and hearts. We will take non-violent action in the spirt of Martin Luther King Jr. and Gandhi to forge a new destiny one block, one neighborhood, one city, one state at a time."
