Wal-Mart Eyeing NYC Again: Report

NEW YORK — Despite encountering resistance to a prior push to build a store here, Wal-Mart Stores is again looking at locations in New York City, a published report this week said.

According to Crain’s New York Business, the Bentonville, Ark.-based retailer is again looking at potential sites in the boroughs outside Manhattan, hoping to “bring a store to New York in the near future,” according to a company spokesman quoted in the article.

Wal-Mart encountered fierce opposition from some politicians and union leaders upon earlier reports it was looking at locations in the city, later prompting an executive to remark a store in New York was not worth the effort.
