Wal-Mart Reports Sales Gains in July

Wal-Mart Stores said yesterday said its comparable-store sales were up 1.3% in the U.S. for July, excluding Sam’s Club, after a strong promotional program during the month offering “rollbacks” and “save even more” promotions.

BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Wal-Mart Stores here said yesterday said its comparable-store sales were up 1.3% in the U.S. for July, excluding Sam’s Club, after a strong promotional program during the month offering “rollbacks” and “save even more” promotions. “The deep cuts on top brands and food started in time for the July Fourth holiday, and continued throughout the four-week period, and customers have responded well,” the company said. Grocery sales were stronger than GM, and were led by dairy, bakery and pharmacy, the company said.
