BOSTON — Wegmans Food Markets is eyeing its first location within the city of Boston, according to local reports.
The Rochester, N.Y.-based chain is seeking to open at the Landmark Center, a massive office and retail complex that is being redeveloped, according to a report on Boston.com. Wegmans anticipates that an agreement for the site will be reached “in the near future,” a spokeswoman for the privately held chain told the website. Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino announced pending store in a speech Monday highlighting local development.
Wegmans entered Massachusetts with a location in Northborough in 2011 and has two others pending, in Burlington and Chestnut Hill. The 70,000-square-foot store planned for Chestnut Hill — half the size of many of the company’s newest locations — would likely serve as the model for the Boston store, Boston.com reported.
