AUSTIN, Texas — Whole Foods Market here on Friday said it had added a section on its website focusing on the Federal Trade Commission’s challenge to the proposed acquisition of Wild Oats Markets by Whole Foods. The section includes a document that Whole Foods presented to the FTC in defense of the deal before the agency announced its intent to block the transaction for violation of antitrust laws. In the document, Whole Foods claims that its competition includes a much more diverse array of retailers than just Wild Oats and that the FTC’s analysis of the competitive market is flawed. A hearing on the FTC’s effort is set to begin July 31.
