Yucaipa Makes New Bid for Interstate

Yucaipa Cos. has made another bid to acquire Interstate Bakeries here out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy, Interstate said Friday.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Yucaipa Cos. has made another bid to acquire Interstate Bakeries here out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy, Interstate said Friday. The bid, which values Interstate at $580 million, was made along with the Teamsters union but does not include Bimbo Bakeries, the Mexico-based partner included in Yucaipa’s initial bid for Interstate in November. Interstate in a statement said it will begin talks with Yucaipa but said it would not consider the bid “qualified” until Yucaipa provides additional details, including a business plan and specific concessions being agreed to by labor. Interstate, in Chapter 11 protection since 2004, is the maker of brands that include Wonder Bread, Hostess and Drake’s.
