Arthur T. Demoulas, the popular president of Demoulas Super Markets, was fired Monday by the company's board of directors, along with two senior executives, sources told SN.
It was unclear whether a successor had been named.
Joe Rockwell and Bill Marsden, two longtime senior executives, were also fired Monday, sources confirmed.
Demoulas had been engaged in a lengthy fight with the board, which is controlled by a rival faction of the Demoulas family headed by his cousin Arthur S. Demoulas. Disagreements among the cousins — descendants of company founders — have most recently interefered with the timely openings of Market Basket supermarkets in Revere, Mass. and Attleboro, Mass., but have also involved bonus and profit-sharing programs for its employees and business dealings between Arthur T. Demoulas and companies controlled by his relatives.
