Demoulas encourages online applications

Demoulas Super Markets on Monday said that interested job applicants could submit interest via email, citing concern for safety at a scheduled job fair.

The company is seeking potential replacements for workers who have walked off the job in protest of the June firing of president Arthur T. Demoulas. The job actions have crippled operations at the 71-store chain for more than two weeks.

“We have heard from many associates who are interested in applying for internal positions, but are concerned for their safety if they attend the scheduled Job Fair,” CEOs Felicia Thornton and Jim Gooch said in a statement. “In response to their concerns, we are making available an email address to which associates can apply.”

Interested associates should send a copy of their resume to [email protected], the company said.

“We understand this statement will likely generate incoming email not appropriate for this purpose, but feel associates interested in opportunity should be given an opportunity without fear of intimidation and harassment,” the CEOs said.

The CEOs earlier said that workers who returned to their jobs Monday would not face disciplinary action or penalties.
