Fresh Market makes Dallas debut

The Fresh Market on Wednesday opened its first store in Dallas.

The 24,000-square-foot store, located in the Arboretum Village shopping center, is the first of at least four Fresh Market stores in the works for the Greensboro, N.C.-based specialty retailer. The company plans additional units in Southlake and Dallas next year, as well as a store in Fort Worth.

Fresh Market entered Texas a year ago via the purchase of former Rice Epicurean Markets in the Houston area.

The new store includes a bakery that produces 30 freshly baked breads and 14 different pie varieties daily, a full-service meat counter with freshly ground beef, a wide selection of ready-to-serve entrées, fresh seafood delivered to the store several times per week, and more than 200 imported and domestic cheeses, as well as a bountiful produce department with more than 400 items and a large organic selection.

“We are excited to open our new store in Dallas and to expand our reach in Texas,” Craig Carlock, Fresh Market’s president and CEO, said in a statement. “We look forward to introducing The Fresh Market’s concept of quality perishables, excellent customer service and a unique atmosphere to an expanded customer base, and we look forward to offering neighboring communities a rewarding new food shopping experience.”

The Fresh Market operates 164 stores in 27 states.
