UNFI will let go 87 workers at distribution center in June

The move shuts down the transportation department in Harrisburg, Pa.

United Natural Foods Inc. (UNFI) will be closing its transportation department at its Harrisburg, Pa., distribution center, reports the Central Penn Business Journal.

The Providence, R.I.-based retailer filed a Worker Adjustment and Restraining Notice (WARN) with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry last week stating that UNFI has decided to permanently close its transportation department at the facility and 87 positions will be eliminated on June 19.

“UNFI announced the decision to change its distribution model in our Harrisburg facility to close our internal fleet operations in June 2024,” UNFI said in an emailed statement to Supermarket News. “We anticipate that we will continue to employ approximately 300 associates in the Harrisburg facility after this change to our distribution model, and look forward to continuing to be a part of the Harrisburg community.”

UNFI recently launched the refinancing of its senior secured term loan facility following a downgrade of the company’s debt by ratings agency Moody’s.

The amended term loan credit facility would total $500 million. The amendment is expected to extend the maturity date, modify the interest rate margins applicable to the term loan, and make other modifications to the terms.

UNFI said it expects to use the proceeds of the amended term loan, together with borrowings under its asset-based revolving credit facility, to repay the existing term loan.
