Walmart, Target involved in laundry detergent recall

Defect makes it difficult to close packages of detergent packets

Procter & Gamble is recalling over 8 million laundry detergent packets because a manufacturing issue has made the packages containing the packets difficult to close.

The voluntary recall involves Tide, Gain, Ace, and Ariel laundry detergent packets sold at stores like Walmart, Target, Big Lots, CVS, Family Dollar, Home Depot, Sam’s Club, Amazon, and other major stores.

The packets were sold from September 2023 through February 2024. P&G is offering shoppers replacement packaging as well as a prepaid debit card for the value of the purchase price.

P&G recommends that consumers transfer the packets in the defective packaging to a Tide PODS or Gain Flings tub with a child-resistant closure. Those who do not have a child-resistant container can request one from P&G’s Consumer Care Team.
